The titles of Cook’s woodcuts often reference musical terms. To compose her images she uses the surface texture of wood grain and the repetition of form to create rhythms. Working in series, each image is built up in layers using a single set of woodblocks to improvise a collection of similar yet varied outcomes. The process thrives on being unplanned, embracing elements of chance in both composition and wet on wet colour blending.
